Small Animal Project -
Planning: To plan for this I researched animals on Pinterest and decided to pick an elephant. I found my inspiration picture and did it based off that.
Description: I got my clay and wedged it, and then looked at my inspiration photo and tried it. I made the legs first in an arch shape then I made the ears. The last step was to add on the truck and then smooth the whole thing out, and then paint the whole body and the eyes.
Reflection: I think this is my favorite piece I have done. It looks very smooth and nice, and I love the purple color. I think it turned out very cute and it was glazed very well. My inspiration for this piece was that I was going to Africa and there were lots of elephants and I wanted to get excited. It is very fitting because we saw SO many elephants and baby elephants and I think that this is a baby elephant.
Pinch Pot made into something useful -
Planning: To plan for this I picked out the colors and knew I wanted to make a pinch pot. I then brainstormed the heart and the pink color in the middle of the bowl.
Description: I first got out my clay and wedged it then formed it into a circle shape. Next, I made my pinch pot and tried to smooth it all out, and then fired it. Once it was fired, I painted it with overglaze very carefully and then fired it again and it was done!
Reflection: I like this piece a lot. I like the colors, that is probably my favorite thing about it. My favorite color is pink so I like the colors on this, although I wish it were brighter. The pinch pot shape is pretty good but I think I could've smoothed and flattened the top and sides even more. I like the heart in the middle and how it matches the pink color at the top, the way I tied that in was cool. This isn't my favorite I have done but I still like it.
Pinch Pot with a fitted lid
Planning: To plan for this I looked at Halloween pinch pot ideas on Pinterest. I saw something like this and decided that's what I wanted to do and thought of how I could do it.
Description: I first got out some clay, wedged it, and then started to form my pinch pot. Once I had gotten the pinch pot to be smooth and good, I accidentally let it harden. But this was okay because I just carved into it hard and made the little wedges on the side. I then fitted the lid to the pot and made the stem and leaf on top.
Reflection: I forgot to get a photo of this so that is why I have this image, it looked something like this but a bit nicer looking. When I took it out of the kelm, I saw that the stem broke off, which was sad. But I did like how this turned out, and I think it was very festive. It got me in the Halloween spirit and the colors were nice and vibrant. I liked doing this project and I think it turned out well except for the stem breaking off.
Relief tile
Planning: To plan for my relif tile I first looked up ideas for it. I saw I wanted to do a flower so I thought of ways I could do that and ended up on this.
Description: To make this I first got my clay and wedged it until it had no bubbles. Then I rolled to my slab with a rolling pin and my hands until it was flat and smooth. Then I started making the flower petals and center until they looked right. After that, I painted it with underglaze and then fired it.
Reflection: I do quite like this project. I think it turned out good. It's very simple but I think that makes it better, and I like the colors I chose for it. I probably could have made this better. The shape of the flower could be improved and the texture of the background. The idea was there though so I am not mad about it. This isn't my best work but I still like it a lot.
